Suzuki Swift 1.2 GL hits the road as an affordable game changer

Luxury in the fast lane.

The new Suzuki Swift, unveiled at the Festival of Motoring in Kyalami, has captured attention with its refreshed design, new engine, and the introduction of a CVT option.

The range includes five models, from the entry-level Swift 1.2 GL (manual) to the top-tier 1.2 GLX CVT. All are powered by Suzuki’s new Z12E engine, delivering 60 kW and 112 Nm, with improved fuel efficiency thanks to a multipoint fuel-injection system and lightweight construction (as low as 908kg).

Before considering the features that are added to the GL+ and GLX models, it is worth looking at all the design features and luxuries that are standard across the range.

Standard features include power steering, digital climate control, a digital information display, rear LED tail lamps, electric windows, and foldable side mirrors. Safety is a priority, with six airbags, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), hill hold control, emergency brake assist, and ISOFIX child seat points. The Swift also comes with rear parking sensors and a 60/40 split-folding rear bench. With these enhancements, the new Swift offers a blend of performance, safety, and convenience, making it one of the best-equipped vehicles in its segment.

Priced at R219 900, the Suzuki Swift 1.2 GL is the most affordable option in the Swift range. Designed for comfort and safety, it comes with 165/80R14 steel wheels and wheel covers, plus a space-saving spare wheel in the luggage compartment. All manual transmission models, including the 1.2 GL, feature an Engine Auto Start/Stop system as standard.

The Suzuki Swift 1.2 GL+ offers both manual (R239 900) and CVT (R259 900) options. It upgrades from the GL model with 185/65 R15 alloy wheels, a 7″ touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and steering wheel controls. A rear-view camera is also included for added convenience.

The Suzuki Swift 1.2 GLX, priced at R264 900 (manual) and R284 900 (CVT), brings luxury to the compact car segment. It features automatic LED projector headlamps, LED fog lights, and auto-closing side mirrors. The GLX upgrades to polished diamond-cut alloy wheels and a 9″ infotainment system with tweeters. Inside, it offers automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise control, and paddle shifts for the CVT model.

All models come with a 2-year/30 000km service plan and a 5-year/200 000km warranty with roadside assistance.
