New high-end SPAR opens at Zimbali Oasis

The Anderson family behind three further SPARs in Umhlanga and surrounds are behind the Zimbali Oasis location.

South Africa’s first SPAR Gourmet was launched today (November 27) by the Anderson family at Zimbali Oasis.

The high-end boutique store is the first in a new SPAR range that will offer premium ready-made meals, private-label gourmet products, gifting and a curated selection of imported and speciality food items.

The Anderson family, well-known in retail circles, already own and manage three successful SPAR stores in Umhlanga and Durban, making Zimbali Oasis their fourth. The launch marks a significant step in SPAR’s strategic evolution, aligning with the Andersons’ long-standing commitment to retail innovation.

“We always want to go the extra mile and create environments that excite and delight customers,” said Mark Anderson.

“We also want to leave a legacy in the retail sector, to be remembered for being the best in the industry.”

Anderson bought his first store in 1997 and has since gained valuable insight into navigating the challenges of the retail landscape, both launching successful ventures and revitalising underperforming stores. His Park Square SPAR in Umhlanga was recently named SPAR Store of the Year.

He credits the business’s success to a strong family foundation.

“My wife, Colleen and our sons Tyrone, Travis and Keegan, along with their spouses Camilla and Romey, all bring their expertise to the business,” he said.

At SPAR Gourmet, health-conscious shoppers will find a wide selection of gluten-free, sugar-free and wellness products, as well as imported teas. For the first time in South Africa, Boschendal specialised products will be available alongside the SPAR Signature range.

The deli will feature restaurant-quality meals and the shopping experience will be elevated by a Vida e Caffè and a brand-new children’s play area.

In a nod to its location and lifestyle offering, the golf-inspired TOPS will include a golf cart and putting green, drawing inspiration from the newly opened Ernie Els Signature Golf Course nearby.
