Out on bail thieves caught again

Two house burglars were caught after robbing a house and stealing a car just two weeks after they were released on bail for the same crime.

Two men were arrested for a house break-in just two weeks after being released on bail after allegedly robbing another house in the same area.
The men were arrested this weekend for stealing a car and other items from a house in Shakas Cove in Chaka’s Rock late on Wednesday, September 4.
Sandile Mpanza (21) and Sphelele Gumede (23) were previously arrested on Thursday, August 22 after allegedly breaking into a home on Ocean Drive in Salt Rock. It is believed they stole computer equipment and a Hyundai i20. Their case was postponed to November 5 and they were released on bail.
Following an investigation and assistance from the community, the task team and detective field unit rearrested the men. The vehicle was recovered just 400 metres from the residence.
Umhlali Station Commander Colonel Bheki Zondi praised his members for their “determination, hard work and dedication” in making the arrests.
Gumede and Mpanza will sit in jail until their court date as they violated the terms of their bail.
Umhlali SAPS have squad cars patrolling Salt Rock to deter criminals from operating in the area.
