A young couple, Sindiswa Xolo (17) and Skhonzeni Mngoma (25) from Gwala Farm, Tongaat were
found murdered in cold blood during the early hours of September 14.
Mngoma’s sister, Bonani said the couple were in her brother’s bedroom when they were shot. She
said Mngoma was shot numerous times in the head and chest and Xolo only had one gunshot wound in
the chest.
The couple was discovered by a neighbour who found the two lying dead next to each other.
“We had heard a loud banging noise around midnight but we did not think it was a gun or that the shootings were happening right inside our house,” said Bonani.
She said this “dark cloud” came when the family was still trying to recover from the rape and murder
of their youngest member Sphindile Mdladla (8) who was killed in June (‘Child raped and murder –
community nabs suspect,’ Courier, June 7).
“If my brother had any enemies it would have been easy to suspect one of them but at this point we are lost as to who may have done this. Even his friends say he did not argue with anyone in the past months,” said Bonani.
The Mngomas suspect that Xolo was killed to erase evidence because the shooter(s) would not
have known she was there.
“It is so sad that someone had to lose their life for something they had no knowledge of but we hope
her family will find the strength to move on with their lives without her,” concluded Bonani.
Tongaat SAPS spokesperson, Lt Mandy Governder confirmed that two cases of murder were being investigated and no arrests had been made. The police would like anyone with information to contact the Tongaat detective services on 032- 9449927/
