Weekend crime report

SAPS members were kept busy over the weekend

From house breaking and fraud, to drinking and driving, SAPS members were kept busy over the weekend.

Umhali SAPS reported the following crimes:

  • One house breaking was reported in Sheffield last Friday night.
  • Three cases of drinking and driving were opened in Ballito last Friday night – police are urging the public not to post notices of active roadblocks on social media platforms. Cases of defeating the ends of justice will be opened against those who do.
  • One case of theft was reported at Shakaskraal last Friday.
  • A house breaking was reported last Saturday in Etete where items valued at R2200 were stolen.
  • Card fraud took place at one of the Ballito malls. Transactions amounting to R 24 000 were made using the cloned card.
  • Umhlali SAPS reported that there has been an increase in rape cases. Four rape case was opened in the last week, within most cases the rapist being known by the victim.

Tongaat SAPS reported the following crimes:

  • *On Monday, August 14, 51-year-old accused Balakrishna Singh appeared at Verulam Magistrate Court. He was found guilty and sentenced to eight years imprisonment for theft of a motor vehicle. The theft of motor vehicle docket was opened at SAPS Tongaat last September and the docket was assigned to Detective Constable MK Khuzwayo for investigation.
  • *On Sunday, August 20 at about 3pm, SAPS Tongaat Crime Prevention members were on routine patrols at Tongaat bus rank when they noticed a suspicious 18-year-old male. He was arrested for possession of property suspected to be stolen and was detained at SAPS Tongaat Police cells.
  • *On Sunday at about 7pm, SAPS Tongaat Crime Prevention members were patrolling at Rajkumars Informal settlement when they stopped two men, aged 18 and 20, and searched them. They discovered thier bag was full of cutlery, on questioning they failed to give proof of purchase and reasonable explanation. Both men were arrested and detained at SAPS Tongaat for Possession of Suspected Stolen property.
