Police on drug crackdown mission in KwaDukuza

SAPS will be doing more operations in the townships and in the CBD in search of drugs and other criminal activities.

Three people were arrested after being found in possession of whoonga and cocaine in Groutville and KwaDukuza town on Friday.

This comes after police discovered a dagga plantation valued at R2 million in a farmhouse in Doringkop last Monday.

In a number of roadblocks last week, police arrested a woman and man, aged about 24, for being in possession of 97 capsules of whoonga and another man was found with cocaine in the CBD.

KwaDukuza police spokesperson constable Sibusiso Khuzwayo said they will be doing more operations in the townships and in the CBD in search of drugs and other criminal activities.

“On Monday morning, station commander brigadier Sbongile Mhlongo held a meeting to discuss the issues that hinder the productivity of police officers in our station.

“All the components were called upon and they had to voice out as to what the challenges may be and the possible solutions.

“Unfortunately, most of their concerns are classified and could not be disclosed to the public,” said Khuzwayo.

The issue of drugs in the townships of KwaDukuza is a serious one, especially in schools.

There are children that are drug dealers in schools and residents are selling drugs to school pupils, especially dagga and whoonga.

Residents of Shayamoya and Nkobongo marched to the Umhlali Police station on Friday, complaining about bad service at the station. Their complaints included accusing police officers of protecting drug dealers.

“As much as we are arresting people on the street who are found in possession of drugs, we need to get to the dealers and we request assistance from the community to please report these people,” said Khuzwayo.
