The three men who stand accused in the rock throwing murder of two children were denied bail in Verulam last week.
Following months of investigation, Nathan Govender (27) and Selvan Govender (46) – a father and son – as well as Qiniso Bhekithemba Gumbi (20), were charged with the deaths of 16-year-old Amina Haffajee and her seven-year-old brother, Abdur late last year.
The deaths of the Vereeniging holidaymakers happened when a large rock was thrown at their car from an overhead bridge, shocking South Africa.
The three accused each face two counts of murder and attempted murder.
They were kept in custody pending further investigation.
The father of the siblings, Ebrahim Haffajee told the Courier he was relieved that arrests had been made but that in the end it would not bring his children back.
“If they are found guilty, I hope they will languish in prison.”
According to KZN police spokesperson colonel Thembeka Mbhele, an extensive investigation led by provincial detectives eventually led to the arrest of the three suspects believed to be responsible for the attack.
