Flushed with the arrest of 155 people during the festive season, KwaDukuza police will be focusing more on operations and high visibility throughout the year.
This comes after their 21-day multidisciplinary festive season operation, resulted in the arrest of two people for murder, two for rape and 21 for assault.
Three were arrested for house robbery, 12 for drunk driving and two for being in possession of illegal firearms.
Police also arrested 17 people who were in possession of drugs, including rock cocaine and whoonga, 33 people for illegally dealing in liquor and 10 arrested for theft.
“We focused on the townships that had the highest crime, such as Ntshawini.
“This is a problematic area where there is a high incidence of murder, robberies and drug dealing,” said KwaDukuza police spokesperson Sibusiso Khuzwayo.

The KZN mounted unit was seen patrolling the streets of the township on their majestic horses and they also patrolled the KwaDukuza CBD and along the beaches.
“The KwaDukuza CBD is also another place that needs to be cleaned up, especially when it comes to drug dealing. This will be a focus area going forward.
“We will be seen patrolling the streets and hopefully we will be able to arrest the drug dealers in the town,” said Khuzwayo.
Thembeni and Challottedalle were also highlighted by Khuzwayo as crime hot spots in KwaDukuza.
The operation was conducted with the assistance of the KwaZulu Natal SAPS mounted unit, KwaDukuza municipal traffic and crime prevention department, KwaDukuza fire and emergency services, provincial RTI based in Groutville and local security companies.
KwaDukuza station commander Brigadier Sbongile Mhlongo asked residents to assist in the fight against crime by being pro-active residents.
“Should you have a tip-off or any information you feel may help contact me at 082 376 2591,” said Mhlongo.
