The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has condemned the shooting and murder of Tongaat taxi boss, Bongani Mthembu.
Mthembu, who was well known for his efforts in cleaning up drugs in the community and using his vehicles to transport pupils to school, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Greylands, Tongaat last Friday evening.
Reaction Unit South Africa reported that he had been shot multiple times in the head.
About 25 ninemillimeter cartridges were found in the road.

He belonged to the Siqalokuhle Taxi Association.
Last September the association suffered the loss of vice chairman Nicholas Gumede, who was killed in a similar fashion in Tongaat.
SANTACO treasurer Bongani Mkhwanazi said violence against taxi owners needed to come to an end.
Emergency Control SA’s Ishmail Mitha said the scene was a sad one.
He said he received a call from a witness who reported that a black VW was being fired at outside Fairbreeze Secondary School.
“A few months ago, the victim’s nephew borrowed his car and was shot at multiple times while driving it.
“It was believed the hit was meant for his uncle, who they managed to shoot this evening.”
Tongaat SAPS are investigating a case of murder.
