Melville residents closed the R102 with burning tyres, broken bottles and waste last Friday.
They were demanding the release of three residents who were arrested in connection with the murder of two men in Melville – set alight after they were allegedly caught breaking into a house recently.

KwaDukuza police spokesperson constable Sibusiso Khuzwayo said the protest started as a march outside the KwaDukuza magistrates court, where the arrested men made their first court appearance and applied for bail.
“Residents were demanding that the arrested men be released, however, bail was opposed and they were remanded in custody.
“The case was postponed to March 14. Residents than went to protest on the R102 in Melville, however, the police managed to control the situation and the road was opened,” said Khuzwayo.
He further warned residents that police will not hesitate to arrest those found to be behind any vigilantism.
