Ballito residents unite to reduce crime

There are reportedly three gangs terrorising the Ballito area.

Following an alarming spate of crime on Susan, Rhona and Lorna Drive in Ballito, residents came together to reduce crime in the neighbourhood.

About six burglaries and an armed robbery had taken place in the past three months, and residents said they needed to be proactive instead of responsive.

The majority of the 67-strong crowd meeting at Sotheby’s Realty Offices were in support of the plan presented by Stephen Frizelle, who suggested that they all support one security company to help them deter criminals from the area.

Chairman of the Community Policing Forum, Gary Frances, said there were three gangs terrorising the Ballito area.

“At this stage, we cannot reveal more but police are working very hard and we are hopeful that they will make an arrest soon,” said Frances.

Chairperson of the Ballito Neighbourhood Watch, Candice Henderson said they were happy with the turnout.

“It shows that when a crime occurs, residents get together and help each other and we hope this was a beginning of a crime reduction concept that could grow within the area,” said Henderson.
