Ballito’s new CCTV security system played a vital role in the arrest of two men caught driving a stolen car on Sunday morning.
The black VW Citi Golf stolen in Piet Retief in April was spotted in Ballito, thanks to the automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) camera system.
“The two men were handed over to the police for further investigation. Thanks to every role player who assisted in catching these men,” said Kyle van Reenan of Marshall Security. The men were arrested at the Umdloti N2 off-ramp.

Ballito Neighbourhood Watch chairperson, Candice Henderson, said the arrest came after BNW CPF committee member Francois Snyman from Z2 Security was alerted by the SNIPR camera alerts system.
“He immediately went looking for this vehicle and escalated the alert to the security response group, including SAPS,” said Henderson, adding that BNW was very pleased with the successes and use of the cameras.
“We have had two successes and we have also used these cameras for various investigations.
“It has also helped our local SAPS, who have asked us to load suspect vehicles and assist them with their crime fighting and investigations. It’s been a successful choice in proactive crime prevention for us,” said Henderson.
