
Crime fighting units worked overtime as a spate of house break-ins riddled the Ballito and Salt Rock area over the weekend.
According to local neighbourhood watch groups, a house was broken into at Ellis Place, Ballito. Details are sketchy but the break-in happened during the day and various household items were taken.
The house alarm had not been activated.
A second house robbery took place in Jacqueline Drive in the early hours of Sunday morning. Two intruders entered the house though an open door and attempted to tie up the residents, who managed to get loose and call for help.

Neighbours heard their screams and activated the panic alarm. The owner’s dog injured one of the intruders but both managed to escape into the park with various small items.
Despite security and residents sweeping the park with dogs and area patrol no suspects were apprehended.
There was a house break-in in Gifford Crescent on Sunday night when intruders entered the premises by breaking the lock on the front sliding door. The intruders made off with various electronic items and household goods.
A few electronic items and a bag of clothes was recovered by Marshall Security. The house alarm had not been activated.
In Fairway Drive, Salt Rock IPSS Electronic Security responded to a house break-in dispatching multiple vehicles which led to the suspect being chased and apprehended. All stolen items were returned to the owners and a case has been opened with the Umhlali SAPS.
SAPS Umhlali spokesperson Captain Vinny Pillay confirmed that an arrest had been made and the suspect had been charged with house break-in.
“We are trying to link him to other cases in the area. Extra manpower has been dispatched to work the night shifts,” said Pillay.
