Update: 21 year old arrested for alleged rape and murder of young Tongaat woman

Komell Pillay was found dead in an abandoned house in Tongaat on Sunday.

A 21-year-old man was arrested by Tongaat police in connection with the murder and rape case of a young woman who was found dead on Sunday.

Komell Pillay’s partly naked body was in an abandoned house near Amanzimnyama Park, Tongaat.

Police have confirmed that she was raped before she was killed.

She was reportedly bounced from a nightclub on Saturday night and on Sunday, her family received a call from the police notifying them of her death.

“Police arrested the man after he was positively identified by a witness.

“The investigation is still going on and he is expected to appear in court soon,” said Tongaat police spokesperson captain Patrick Ngwane.

Her sister, Desray Gounden, said the family were struggling to come to terms with Pillay’s death.

“All we know for now is that she went to a club with two friends on Saturday night and they got kicked out of the club.

“We do not know what happened after that,” said Gounden.

Pillay was working at a call center and was described as a people’s person, who was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
