Assassination attempt on IFP councillor, wife and child in KwaDukuza
The family's vehicle was riddled with bullets.
KwaDukuza municipality Inkatha Freedom Party councillor Aubrey Baardman and his family were lucky to survive an assassination attempt after his car was riddled with bullets on the N2 outside of KwaDukuza this morning.
Four assailants surrounded the Ilembe district council executive member’s vehicle with the family inside, reported paramedics.
“Multiple shots were fired,” said Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue,
“Luckily they escaped with minor bullet wound grazes to the nearby KwaDukuza municipality offices where they were helped by police and paramedics and escorted by police to a nearby hospital,” said Herbst.
KZN police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said Baardman’s eleven-year-old child was injured in the leg and Baardman received an injury to the neck.
KwaDukuza acting mayor Dolly Govender expressed her shock at “this atrocious act”.
“Information at our disposal is that he was able to drive to one of the municipal offices, Lavoipierre Building.
“The KwaDukuza municipality crime prevention unit officers immediately escorted them to a local hospital,” she said.
