KwaDukuza liquor store robbed and restaurant guard shot

Police could not confirm whether the two incidents were related.

KwaDukuza town experienced an unusually crime-filled Tuesday night this week.

At about 7pm, a security guard was shot and injured while on duty at a well-known restaurant near Shakaville.

“He was approached by two people who opened fire, wounding him in the chest.

“They took his firearm and fled,” said SAPS KZN spokesperson, lieutenant colonel Thulani Zwane.

The guard was taken to hospital and nothing was taken from the restaurant.

A case of attempted murder has been opened.

About 30 minutes earlier, a 54-year-old employee was held at gunpoint at one of the liquor stores in Cactus Road in KwaDukuza.

According to Zwane, the woman was accosted by four armed men.

“They ordered her to open a till, took an undisclosed amount of money, cigarettes and liquor from the kiosk before fleeing the scene.

“A case of robbery was opened at KwaDukuza police station,” said Zwane.
