Police recover illegal firearms, one man arrested

One firearm was recovered in Shayamoya and two in Ndwedwe.

Two operations held in the Ilembe district resulted in the recovery of three firearms, ammunition and arrest of one man on Saturday.

A 30-year-old man was arrested by Umhlali police after he was found with a pistol with two rounds of ammunition in his possession at Shayamoya township.

“He was charged for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“He will appear at the KwaDukuza Magistrates court today (Monday),” said provisional spokesperson colonel Thembeka Mbele.

Ndwedwe police officers were conducting an operation on the P100 highway when they spotted two men carrying a bag.

They dropped the bag and fled into the bushes on foot when approached by police.

Police found two firearms with 11 rounds of ammunition inside.
