Child allegedly kidnapped from Mandeni classroom

The kidnapper allegedly claimed to be the child's aunt.

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped from a classroom at Mbewenhle Primary School in Mandeni  on Wednesday.

The child was reportedly taken by a woman who is now demanding R61 000 from the mother.

Esihle (7) Mthethwa was in her classroom when a woman who presented her self as her aunt, arrived to fetch the little girl.

The child’s mother, Nondumiso Sikhakhane, is distraught.

The kidnapping allegedly took place while the grade one teacher was not in the classroom.

According to Sikhakhane she later heard from the school that as the alleged kidnapper was walking out of the classroom, one of the teachers noticed that the child did not appear happy to be leaving with the woman.

“The teacher stopped the woman and asked where was she taking Esihle and who she was.

“She said she was her aunt and that she wanted to buy something for my child from a shop near the school.

“The teacher apparently instructed her to leave and said she could bring whatever the child needed back to Esihle in the classroom,” said Esihle’s mother.

The woman then left Esihle and walked away, but it was later discovered that Esihle was missing.

“It is not clear as to when and how she managed to return and take my child from the class.”

Nondumiso said the woman later contacted her and demanded R61 000 in order to release her daughter.

Police are investigating the alleged kidnapping.
