Man killed in Tongaat hijacking

The man was meeting a woman in his car when they were held at gunpoint.

A 33-year-old man was shot and killed for his car in Gandhi’s Hill, Tongaat, last Friday.

The man was reportedly visiting a woman in his BMW when they were approached by two men who held them at gunpoint in Lily Pond Drive.

Tongaat SAPS spokesperson captain Patrick Ngwane said the woman managed to escape to her house nearby.

“She heard a gunshot and the sound of the vehicle taking off. She went outside and found the driver lying down on an embankment with a gunshot wound to his head,” said Ngwane.

Police are investigating a case of murder and carjacking.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson, Prem Balram, the woman said she met the man in Durban and they exchanged contact details.

“He called her a short while before the incident and asked to visit her. She could not provide any details of the suspects and did not know the name of the victim,” said Barlam.
