Vigilantes arrested for attempted murder at Shayamoya and Nkobongo Reserve

The victim is being investigated for possible involvement in numerous criminal cases.

Five men have been arrested for the attempted murder of a 42-year-old Shayamoya man.

Police last week headed to Shayamoya and Nkobongo Reserve where the men, aged between 22 and 38 were arrested.

According to Saps provincial spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the Shayamoya man was assaulted and shot in the leg on June 10.

He was hospitalised and has been recovering since.

Police said the men had accused their victim of breaking into a Glendale home.

The victim was found to have been sought in other criminal cases under investigation by the Saps.

Police took the men accused of attempted murder into custody, seizing a firearm, one round of ammunition, a knife, toy gun and the victim’s cellphone.

“The accused will be charged for attempted murder while the 28-year-old accused [one of the five men arrested] will also be charged for illegal possession of a firearm,” said Mbele.

The men are expected to appear in the Umhlali Magistrates Court later this week.

Police have warned the public against taking the law into their own hands.
