Double murder may have been a case of mistaken identity – KwaDukuza

The family of one of the victims are demanding answers

The family of Njabulo Cele, one of the two young men who were brutally murdered in Lindelani township outside KwaDukuza town, are demanding answers.

Njabulo (24) was sitting with 16-year-old Santos Francis in a friend’s car when they were both shot and killed on Monday night.

Njabulo’s older brother Ernest, said they were bewildered by the murder as his brother was not a troublemaker.

He said is brother was a soccer coach and believed his murder may have been a case of mistaken identity.

“We hear that the murders might be politically motivated but we not sure.

“It would be very strange because he was not involved in politics and neither is anyone in the family.

“All he did was play or coach soccer. That is all he loved.

“It just does not make sense,” said Ernest.

It is alleged that the owner of the car had challenged local leadership with allegations of corruption in Lindelani.

“We think the killers were looking for the owner of the car.

“We need this man to tell us who is after him and we pray that justice will be served,” he said.

KwaDukuza Saps spokesperson Priya Nunkumar said KwaDukuza detectives were investigating two cases of murder.

“Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced deceased by paramedics,” said Nunkumar.

Attempts to reach the owner of the car were unsuccessful.
