Taxi boss gunned down in Tongaat

Witnesses said they saw 2 men open fire on the vehicle before fleeing.

A 35-year-old taxi owner was shot and killed in his vehicle in Maidstone, Tongaat this morning. 

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) found the dead man in his vehicle, parked outside a used car spares business in Gopalall Hurbans Road (R102).

Around 10.30am a RUSA officer on patrol was flagged down and informed of the shooting.

Witnesses told RUSA that 2 men walked up to the taxi boss’ vehicle and opened fire at him before fleeing in an unidentified vehicle.

A search for the suspects proved fruitless despite an extensive search of the area.

“The motive for the murder is suspected to be related to taxi violence however, this is yet to be confirmed,” said RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram.
