Pregnant woman repeatedly raped by traditional healer

A case of rape was opened at Sundumbili Saps in Mandeni.

A Mandeni traditional healer has been arrested for raping a pregnant woman last week Wednesday.

The 3-month pregnant woman, accompanied by her mother, went to the healer’s house in the Mhambuma area in Sundumbili for a consultation.

The 19-year-old woman was told something was wrong with her bladder and urgently needed to be cleansed.

Her boyfriend told the Courier the healer said the cleansing ceremony had to be done at night in a river, so her mother had to return home alone.

“The healer escorted the mother home, but when he and the victim returned to his house he changed his story and said instead of going to the river, he had to insert muthi inside her by having sex.

“When she refused, the healer threatened her with some kind of weapon and said he would kill her,” the boyfriend claimed.

It is alleged the 34-year-old man repeatedly raped the woman throughout night and in the morning.

Police confirmed a case of rape was opened at Sundumbili Saps.

The docket was transferred to the KwaDukuza Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.

The suspect was arrested and appeared in the eShowe Magistrate’s Court last Friday,” said KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.
