Drug bust at Ballito taxi rank

Police recovered 22 crystal meth straws, 17 rock cocaine pieces and 30 whoonga capsules.

Four people were arrested for drug possession at the Ballito Taxi rank last Friday.

Provincial police spokesperson, constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, said police, together with security companies and the KwaDukuza crime prevention unit, made the arrests while conducting crime prevention duties.

“The suspects, aged between 18 and 30, were expected to appear in the KwaDukuza court on Monday this week,” said Ngcobo.

Police recovered 22 crystal meth straws, 17 rock cocaine pieces and 30 whoonga capsules.

Dolphin Coast Taxi Association spokesperson Siyabonga Ntombela said as much as they try to keep the rank free of drugs, it is a public space and difficult to monitor.

“However, since we are now aware that some people are using the taxi rank for illegal activities, our committee will meet to find ways to curb the problem,” said Ntombela.
