Alleged drug mule arrested at King Shaka International Airport

His luggage was searched and 6.38kg of cocaine with a street value of about R2.2-million was found concealed in his bag

A suspected drug mule was arrested after he was caught with drugs worth millions at King Shaka International Airport on Saturday.

The 52-year-old man arrived from Johannesburg and police arrested him before he departed for the Philippines.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, said they received information from crime intelligence and set up an operation.

“The man’s luggage was searched and 6.38kg of cocaine with a street value of about R2.2-million was found concealed in his bag. He was subsequently arrested and charged with drug trafficking and possession of drugs,” said Mhlongo.

He was to appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court today.
