Woman allegedly kills newborn baby after giving birth in shopping centre toilets

Early indications are that she stabbed her baby to death with an unknown object.

A woman in her twenties has been taken into police custody after she allegedly gave birth and killed her newborn baby in Mandeni today.

According to Dylan Meyrick of IPSS Medical Rescue, the incident happened in the toilets of a Sundumbili shopping centre.

When paramedics arrived, they found the woman holding the body of her baby girl.

“Further investigation indicated she stabbed the baby to death with an unknown object,” said Meyrick.

The Courier is awaiting comment from the provincial police.
