Security guards attacked and shot near King Shaka International Airport, one dead

Advanced life support medics stabilised the surviving guard who is reported to be in a critical condition.

Two security guards believed to be conducting perimeter patrols near King Shaka International Airport were attacked and shot on Tuesday evening.

One of the security guards, a woman in her mid-30s, died at the scene, while her colleague is in a critical condition in hospital.

According to Paul Herbst of Medi Response, the security guards were attacked by unknown assailants, after which their vehicle was taken.

“Both guards were shot multiple times,” he said.

The badly wounded security guard managed to flag down a passing taxi which took him to the airport police station to report the incident.

Medi Response treated him at the station before rushing him to hospital, while another team was dispatched to the site where the attack took place..

The female security was declared dead at the scene.
