Chatsworth businessman killed in suspected hit at Sheffield

Elvis Padayachee survived an earlier suspected hit just over a month ago before being killed today.

A Chatsworth businessman was shot and killed in a suspected hit off the P228 at Sheffield this afternoon, a mere month after another attempt on his life in Chatsworth.

Identified as shoe factory owner Elvis Padayachee (64), he was shot twice in front of relatives and employees with whom he was visiting the area.

First cousin Morgan Samuel was at the scene of the shooting and said he failed to understand why anyone would have wanted to kill Padayachee.

Padayachee was killed in a suspected hit.

“He had no enemies and owed nobody any money. He was a peaceful man who lived in his own space,” Samuel said.

Padayachee was declared dead at the scene by IPSS Medical Rescue.

An unknown number of men reportedly fled the scene after the shooting and police are investigating.
