Sheffield robbers arrested after high-speed chase

The men had stolen construction equipment and materials from a home in Sheffield yesterday evening.

A bakkie-load of construction equipment and materials were recovered by Marshall Security following a high-speed chase on the N2 yesterday evening.

Multiple bags of cement and a host of tools were taken from a home under construction on Gail Road in Sheffield, just after 5pm.

After the robbery was reported, Marshall Security officers were sent to the area and later spotted the suspects’ bakkie on Colwyn Drive.

The bakkie, driven by two men in their late 20s, attempted to flee south on the N2 with multiple security cars giving chase.

After turning onto the Watson Highway towards Tongaat and again towards the King Shaka International Airport, the bakkie was eventually stopped just after 6.30pm.

Both men were taken into custody and handed over to police at the airport, where they were charged with being in possession of stolen items.

The Sheffield homeowners opened a case at Umhlali Saps.
