Truck driver shot during botched hijacking at Tongaat Toll Plaza

This is the second hijacking attempt at the Tongaat Toll in the last month.

A truck driver was shot and injured during an attempted hijacking at the Tongaat Toll on the N2 this evening.

The driver, in his 30’s, suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

“Four people had reportedly attempted to hijack a truck on the southbound lane, during which the driver of the truck sustained a single gunshot,” said Medi Response KZN spokesperson Kimberly Liell-Cock.

Last month a man, thought to be in his 60s, was shot in the leg during an attempted hijacking at the Tongaat Toll onramp.

In that incident, a shootout took place between police and the hijackers, resulting in the death of one man, while the others managed to flee.

Police were not available to comment at the time of publication.
