Pupils mourn murdered Lindelani schoolboy Ayanda Myeza

Pupils took to protest action at the KwaDukuza Magistrate Court where the accused made his first appearance on Tuesday.

School pupils flooded King Shaka Street on Tuesday, protesting outside KwaDukuza Magistrate Court as the alleged murderer of Lindelani schoolboy Ayanda Myeza made his first appearance.
They demanded bail be refused.

Ayanda (18) was found dead with stab wounds near a river in KwaDukuza on Saturday morning.

The 23-year-old accused also faces charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm for reportedly assaulting a 17-year-old girl by striking her with a stone in the face.

Both pupils at Tshelenkosi Secondary School in Shakaville, Ayanda and the girl had a relationship.

According to Ayanda’s uncle, Innocent Khoza, he only dated the girl for about three weeks, unaware the accused man used to be involved with her.

“We’ve been told the accused hacked into the girl’s Facebook account, posing as her. He used this deception to arrange a meeting with Ayanda. He and some friends then allegedly took Ayanda and murdered him,” said Khoza.

Ayanda and his sister resided with Khoza in his Lindelani home. He only realised the teen was missing last Friday.

The teen was described as a dedicated student and a passionate dancer.

Khoza expressed the family’s hope for justice and closure, anticipating that the accused wouldn’t be granted bail when he appears in court again next Tuesday.

Ayanda’s funeral will be held in Lindelani on Sunday.
