Citizen’s arrest: Nkobongo residents make their community safer by handing over alleged robbers to the police

Men accused of terrorising the community of Inkobongo have been apprehended and appeared in the Umhlali Magistrate's Court.

Four alleged house robbers were caught by residents in Nkobongo and handed to police on Saturday.

Residents suspect the men were behind multiple house robberies that have been a thorn in the side in the community.

They were found in possession of a homemade gun and an airgun.

iLembe cluster spokesperson Captain Alex Thomson thanked residents for working with the police instead of taking matters into their own hands.

The men, aged 21 and 22, appeared in the Umhlali Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

“We have had a big problem with house robberies in Nkobongo. It’s good to see the community helping, as we’ve asked them to work with us to fight crime. It’s better that they didn’t try to handle it themselves but called us to arrest the suspects,” said Thomson.
