Groutville granny denied bail for allegedly assaulting grandchildren

Shocking child abuse uncovered in Groutville.

A 67-year-old Groutville grandmother, accused of brutally assaulting her four grandchildren, has been denied bail. She appeared in the KwaDukuza Regional Court on Monday, facing four counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH).

iLembe police spokesperson Alex Thomson confirmed the arrest. He said the woman was taken into custody by the iLembe District Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

The alleged abuse came to light when a teacher at school noticed one of the children in visible pain. The pupil was questioned and severe bruising was evident when the child was asked to lift his or her shirt.

Further investigation revealed that all four children under the grandmother’s care, aged between eight and eleven, had been badly assaulted.
