Seatides housebreaking gang member caught
The gang has been responsible for a rise in break-ins since the end of December.
Seatides residents are hopeful that an arrest will stem the flow of recent housebreakings in the area.
More than 20 house break-ins have been committed in the suburb since December 26.
Last Thursday, Fidelity security officers caught a teenager who admitted to being a member of the housebreaking gang that has been active in the neighbourhood.
He was caught while jumping out of a window on Shad Lane in Genazzano and was found with a cellphone reported stolen the previous day.
“He confessed that they had stolen jewellery, mobile phones and other items,” said Charnel Hattingh, head of communications for Fidelity Services Group.
Seatides resident Riza Sadack said the gang had been targeting small, easy to carry valuables.
“The robberies have been a concern, but have not been violent.”
“They usually just break into the house and the biggest item that I know of is a flat-screen television that they have stolen. So they seem not to be looking for big items,” said Sadack.
