Cash reward offered for information after puzzling Elaleni burglaries

The estate said there had been no evidence of a breach in perimeter security.

Two burglaries inside Elaleni Coastal Forest Estate in January have not been solved despite no evidence of a breach of security.

The Elaleni Homeowners Association (HOA) is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest or return of stolen items. It has been a month since the first burglary was reported in Lush apartments on January 10, but the thief has not been caught. Another burglary happened weeks later, also in Lush, which is situated near the two main Elaleni gate houses.

It is understood a television, and other items were stolen from the second break-in.

A private investigator has been hired to help Elaleni and IPSS Security with the investigation. Elaleni spokesperson, Robyn Pascoe, said there had not been any breaches to security, and that all the cameras were reviewed but showed no evidence of anything suspicious or unusual on the day of the break-ins.

“This is not a simple open-and-shut case,” said Pascoe. “There were no clear signs of forced entry and no breach of the perimeter security fence. Our security fence has a JVA monitoring system (shows the electrical current and alarms for activations on the fence) as well as security cameras – both of which are monitored off-site. Both the cameras and alarm systems show no breach of the boundary line.”

The HOA said it is reviewing their security systems and procedures.

“As part of our commitment to enhancing security, we have appointed an independent specialist security consultancy to conduct a comprehensive audit of our systems and procedures,” added Pascoe. “This process is expected to take a few weeks, after which the board will review its findings and recommendations.”
