Road Accident Fund payout victim kidnapped with teen girls in Mandeni

The family received a ransom demand from the kidnappers using the victim's cellphone.

A man who recently received a payout from the Road Accident Fund and two teenage girls were kidnapped in Sundumbili, Mandeni, last week.

Police swiftly traced them to Durban, where they found the victims and arrested two men who had abducted them.

The 30-year-old man and the girls were abducted from their Sundumbili home last Friday.

Later that day, the family received a ransom demand from the kidnappers using the victim’s cellphone.

iLembe police spokesperson Alex Thomson said police traced the call, leading them to a location in Durban, where the first suspect was arrested. He was in possession of the victim’s cellphone.

“The second suspect was traced to a taxi rank. Both suspects then led police to the victims, who were safely rescued.

“Police also recovered a white Toyota Corolla which was used in the crime, two cellphones belonging to the victims, a handgun with its serial number removed and 14 live rounds of ammunition,” said Thomson.

The men appeared in the Pinetown magistrates court on Monday. They face charges of house robbery, kidnapping, posession of stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
