Man arrested in R450k firearms bust at Zimbali estate

Firearms, ammo and drugs seized in Hawks operation.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on Monday for possession of firearms and ammunition valued at R450,000 during a raid at Zimbali Estate.

The arrest followed a joint operation led by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) on two private properties within the estate, conducted between 4am and 7am.

According to Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo, the man was charged with unlawful possession of firearms, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of one gram of cocaine.

The Zimbali Estate Management Association (ZEMA) confirmed it had been made aware of the planned operation but stated that it was not linked to any of its management or operational staff.

“Every effort was made to ensure the situation was managed in a way that protected the integrity of Zimbali Estate and minimised unnecessary alarm or disruption to our resident community,” said the estate.

The case is under investigation.
