iLembe Saps warn of police recruitment scam

The alleged scammer is using the names 'Colonel Khumalo' and 'Mr Zungu HR' to trick unsuspecting job hunters.

iLembe District Saps are flagging a rise in fake police recruitment posts that require payment for consideration.

According to iLembe Saps spokesperson, Priya Nunkumar-Bukum, police have received increasing reports of an alleged scammer who poses as a recruitment official using the names ‘Colonel Khumalo’ and ‘Mr Zungu HR’.

Once a potential job applicant shows interest, they are then pressured into making a payment to secure the position. The alleged scammer is reportedly using the phone numbers 064 964 5268 and 079 638 6975.

Nunkumar-Bukum stressed that all legitimate Saps recruitment processes are free, transparent and officially advertised through government channels. Applicants never need to pay to secure a post and no recruitment offers are made via phone calls, social media or voice notes.

“We call on members of the public to verify any recruitment claims with their nearest police station or through official Saps communication platforms,” said Nunkumar-Bukum.

“Fraudulent activities must be reported immediately to SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or at the nearest police station.”
