Unlicensed guns and ammunition seized in Tinley Manor raid

A man was also arrested following a community tip-off.

A 37-year-old man was arrested with unlicensed guns and illegal ammunition during a police raid in Tinley Manor on Thursday.

Led by iLembe District Saps, the raid followed a community tip-off and month-long investigation, leading police to a residential estate at around 11.30am.

The operation also involved members of the Tactical Response Team, Umhlali Saps and IPSS Security.

“After thorough surveillance, the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court issued the police a Search and Seizure Warrant for the property,” said iLembe District Saps spokesperson, Priya Nunkumar-Bukum.

Once inside, police discovered a cache of illegal weapons and ammunition, including two .303 rifles, one pump-action shotgun with a spare barrel and 78 rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.

Illegal ammunition was also found inside the suspect’s house.

The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.

“The firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if they have been used in any criminal activities,” said Nunkumar-Bukum.

Nunkumar-Bukum urged the public to continue reporting suspicious behavior to help ensure community safety.
