Taxi drivers gunned down in Magwaveni township
A fresh wave of taxi violence has hit the Tongaat township.
Tongaat police have launched a double murder investigation after two men were gunned down in Magwaveni early Monday morning.
The men, believed to be in their 40s, were reportedly on their way home when they were attacked. Their bodies were found just metres apart.
“One man was found with abdominal gunshot wounds and the other with bullet wounds to the chest and buttocks,” said Tongaat police spokesperson, Captain Jasanathan Naidoo.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said four women, who had allegedly been drinking with the men earlier, reported that the victims were taxi drivers.”
According to the public, gunshots were heard at around 2am. Shortly after, the four women approached reaction officers, explaining that the men had left to return home and sleep,” said Balram.
The incident comes just a week after a man and a teenage boy were killed in a drive-by shooting in Magwaveni.
The victims, who were installing a radio system, were attacked by two men in a white vehicle.
