Repeat offender arrested after Ballito housebreaking
The security company recovered multiple cellphones, a laptop and cash allegedly found in the man’s possession.
A 48-year-old repeat offender was arrested after a housebreaking on Kudu Road in the early hours of Monday morning.
IPSS Security made the arrest after responding to a call for help, despite the alarm system not having been armed.
After a foot chase, the man was arrested and several items believed to have been stolen from the property were recovered. These included multiple cellphones, a laptop, a backpack, clothing, charging cables and electronic accessories, as well as a quantity of cash in foreign currency.
Most of the items were found in the man’s possession, while further investigations led to the recovery of additional items at a separate location.
He was handed over to Umhlali Saps, where he was positively identified as a repeat offender and a wanted person.
Umhlali police spokesperson Makhosi Khumalo confirmed that the accused is expected to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. He faces charges of theft and housebreaking.
Ward 6 councillor Ayabonga Zwane commended the security company for its swift response.
“I believe he is a known troublemaker in Ballito and his arrest will give residents relief. I applaud the local security companies for their outstanding work, working together with our local police station,” said Zwane.
