Missing Glenhills teen found in Lindelani, suspect arrested

The teenager was reported missing on January 25 after leaving her Glenhills home to walk to a nearby shop.

A 13-year-old girl who disappeared two months ago has been found alive at a home in Lindelani, where a 40-year-old man has since been arrested.

The suspect was taken into custody on Monday by the iLembe District Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit and has been charged with abduction and rape. He is expected to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court.

The suspect is believed to be known to the family.

The teenager was reported missing on January 25 after leaving her Glenhills home at around 7am to walk to a nearby shop, part of her usual routine.

Concern grew when she failed to return within 20 minutes. Her family began searching the area, and enquiries at the shop revealed she had never arrived.

A widespread search followed, with the family pursuing leads and appealing for public assistance as weeks passed without answers.

Police investigations ultimately led officers to a residence in Lindelani, where the girl was found in the company of the suspect.

She has since been taken for medical examination and is receiving the necessary care.
