Five suspected drug dealers arrested in Umhlali crackdown

Police seized a total of 119 whoonga capsules and 89 pieces of rock cocaine.

Police arrested five suspected drug dealers across the Umhlali precinct yesterday, June 11, recovering whoonga capsules and rock cocaine in the process.

One teenager (19) and four men in their twenties were caught in possession of the drugs between Umhlali, Etete and Shakaskraal.

The crackdown was led by the iLembe District Crime Intelligence Unit, in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Saps Provincial Drugs Unit and KwaDukuza Municipality’s Special Operations Unit.

According to iLembe police spokesperson Priya Nunkumar, the operation targeted known drug-dealing hotspots.

Nunkumar said police seized a total of 119 whoonga capsules and 89 pieces of rock cocaine.

“These arrests form part of ongoing intelligence-driven operations aimed at disrupting drug trafficking and dealing networks within the district,” she said.

“Police will continue to intensify efforts to remove drugs from our communities and bring those involved in the drug trade to justice.”
