KwaDukuza municipality spreads Christmas joy

KDM mayor Lindile Nhaca and speaker Dolly Govender handed out a number of useful gifts, including cooking appliances, food and hygiene items to 35 families.

Despite the dreary weather, residents in High Ridge and Driefontein were grateful for some Christmas cheer courtesy of the KwaDukuza municipality (KDM).

Last week, KDM mayor Lindile Nhaca and speaker Dolly Govender handed out a number of useful gifts, including cooking appliances, food and hygiene items to 35 families.

This followed the municipality’s delivery of temporary residential units (TRUs) to areas around KwaDukuza to house over 200 flood victims who had been displaced for more than eight months.

Residents of the halls complained of a lack of assistance in that period, often citing a lack of food aid and reliance on private sector assistance.

But mayor Nhaca personally took on the cause and has lived up to her promise of no families in halls by Christmas.
