Major boost for festive safety with new emergency vehicles for Ballito and KwaDukuza
Fancy fire engines to enhance response times.
The addition of a R22.9-million state-of-the-art fleet will boost emergency services in KwaDukuza from December.
The new fleet includes two advanced fire engines, two rapid response vehicles and special vehicles for marine and fire safety.
These will improve the municipality’s ability to handle emergencies in both urban and rural areas.
KwaDukuza mayor Ali Ngidi said the fire engines are the first of their kind in KwaZulu-Natal.
“This fleet is a game-changer for KwaDukuza. The fire engines come with battery-operated rescue tools, which means we don’t need generators, fuel or oil. This will make our emergency responses much faster and more efficient,” said Ngidi, speaking at Stanger High School last Thursday at the launch of the municipality’s festive season operational plan.
One engine will be posted at the Ballito fire station and the other in KwaDukuza town.
A 4×4 vehicle will support the marine safety unit, helping with water rescues and inland emergencies. It will also be used for education and awareness campaigns about water safety.

The rapid response vehicles will carry rescue equipment to help at accident scenes.
“These vehicles will close the critical time gap, providing initial care while waiting for additional help,” said Ngidi.
The fleet also includes a fire safety vehicle designed to assist officers in conducting public education campaigns, fire prevention initiatives and inspections for business licenses and occupational certificates.
The announcement came as part of the broader festive season operational plan, bringing together the municipality, Saps, private security companies and emergency services to reduce crime, prevent accidents and ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the holiday season.
“With increased police visibility and public awareness campaigns we aim to make this festive season safer for everyone,” said Ngidi.
