KDM rolls out streetlight repairs across southern wards

Municipal repair teams will revolve between wards weekly.

The KwaDukuza municipality will begin repairing broken streetlights in Ballito’s Ward 30 this week, following the recent restoration of more than 50 lights in Ward 6 (Ballito north).

Ward 30 councillor Jack Abraham said about 45 to 50 streetlights are not working in the ward, affecting residential areas, the local business park and Lee Barnes Boulevard.

The latest repairs follow work completed in Ward 6 last week, where at least half of the broken streetlights were restored along Compensation Beach Road, as well as Sandra, Marion Place, Leonora, Hilary, Adrienne, Jack Powell and Jacqueline streets.

Ward 6 councillor Ayabonga Zwane said municipal teams would return in the coming weeks.

“KwaDukuza will be back in three to four weeks to fix the remaining broken streetlights. The repair team rotates weekly between wards 4, 6, 21, 22 and 30, depending on available materials and budget,” said Zwane.

Meanwhile, significant challenges remain in other areas. In Ward 22, councillor Privi Makhan reported that 314 streetlights were not functional as of January.

Partial repairs have already been carried out in Ward 22, including on Hugh Dent Road, Barrier Lane and Sheffield, Cuyler, Colwyn and Llewelyn drives.

Residents are encouraged to report faulty streetlights by calling 060 900 3908 and requesting a reference number to ensure a faster response.
