Haven’s Helpers

Logan Naidoo and Babs Moodley maintain the Haven of Rest's facilities, an NGO in Tongaat. Theirs' is a story of overcoming addiction and giving back to the very place that saved their lives.

Taken in and given shelter and counselling for alcoholism, two men now live and give their best to maintain the very place that saved their lives.
Babs Moodley (48) and Logan Naidoo (46) are the handymen of the Haven of Rest, an NGO in Tongaat.
The two came to the Haven for treatment after alcohol addiction turned their lives upside down. Babs sought treatment in 2002 and Logan in 2007. Both men attribute their recovery to the Haven’s facilities, their faith and Pastor Ronnie Naidoo.
“It felt safe in here. Outside the temptations were too strong,” Babs explained. “Pastor Ronnie helped us a lot. On a daily basis he visited us and asked us how we were doing,” he said.
“We gave ourselves to the Lord and that was also a big part of our recovery,” said Logan.
Babs and Logan are now in charge of the facility’s upkeep. Both men have experience in carpentry and engineering workshops. They do everything from painting to tiling, plumbing and carpentry.
What is more, they help with counselling once a month at the halfway house. Pastor Naidoo, the CEO of Haven of Rest, praised his handymen for their recovery and their work. “Being artisans, they are such an asset to this place and they do just about anything they can to help,” Naidoo said.
