Crime unit stamp on criminals

KwaDukuza Crime Prevention Unit has over the last two weeks, arrested more than a dozen people found in possession of drugs in the KwaDukuza and Shakaskraal areas.

KwaDukuza Crime Prevention Unit has over the last two weeks, arrested more than a dozen people found in possession of drugs in the KwaDukuza and Shakaskraal areas.

Superintendent Desmond Arumgam said they had been doing random stop and searches in an effort to fight crime throughout the municipality.
On September 12 they caught eight men who were in possession of dagga in Groutville, Melville and KwaDukuza taxi ranks.
Five days later another man who the unit have been following for a while was finally caught. He was suspected of bringing dagga into the country from Swaziland. He is currently in police custody and will appear in court this week.
The unit said while they were in Nkobongo last week they were alerted to the presence of a sugars dealer. They found him in possession of 396 straws of sugars.
On Friday night the unit arrested a Mozambican man in Shakaville with 31 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes with an estimated street value of R3000.
The cartons were hidden inside the panel of the taxi and the officers had to strip the car to access them.
