Women can breathe a sigh of relief that they do not have to grow unwanted bodily hair in support of Movember.
Instead, they can assist the cause by buying a brooch, rather than going a month without shaving their legs or armpits…
Elmarie Venter from Sugar Dance studio and Lizelle Weyer from Expressions dance studio in Ballito decided to pledge their support for the initiative in this more feminine way.
“We wanted to do something from the ladies side in Ballito, the idea is to raise money by selling the brooches” said Venter.
“Instead of growing hair, you can just buy a brooch and wear it for the month,” she explained.
The initiative also has special meaning for the two friends, as Weyer’s father was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer.
They have named their project “OH-MY-MO” and are selling the brooches for R30 each. R10 goes to printing the brooches and the other R20 will go to charity.
People are encouraged to wear the brooches everyday of Movember to help raise funds for prostate cancer.
The brooches will be available at either one of the dance studios. They will also be selling the brooches at shopping centres in Ballito.
“We are hoping to have a party at the end of November to further raise funds,” said Venter.
Signs etc have also joined in to help the cause by making the brooches at a discounted price.
