Last week more than 50 domestic staff were treated to a morning of spoiling at the Umhlali Methodist church.
Driven by the compassion they feel towards their domestic helpers, Lucy Kewley, owner of Fun Foodies and Lisa de Beer, arranged the thank you tea. Employers were asked to provide delicious eats, and donate towards goody bags for the guests to take home.
Ponds also provided samples for the bags, and Ponds Beauty Advisors gave health and beauty tips to the ladies, and left the women motivated and jovial.
It was a very happy morning, which ended in some enthusiastic singing from the guests.
“The feedback has been amazing” said Lucy.
One of the employers wrote: “In my opinion this was a God-inspired idea and I hope you have started a tradition.”
One of the women at the tea said: “Did you know, the white ladies served us tea and coffee and we could have as much as we liked. I had four cups of tea and when the lady offered me another I said, ‘let me have a coffee now, I’ve had too much tea!”
Lucy thanked the Umhlali Methodist Church for hosting them in their new coffee shop and for donating all the tea and coffee.
“Thanks must also go to Ponds for sending two delightful ladies. Without the help of my friends who worked behind the scenes and on the day, the morning would not have happened,” she said.
